British aid to Pakistan should be conditional on ending enforced disappearances - BNM UK Chapter

London: On Tuesday (August 30), the Baloch National Movement’s United Kingdom Chapter conducted an awareness campaign on the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances and distributed leaflets on the occasion.

BNM has demanded that any military aid by the UK to Pakistan must be immediately stopped and humanitarian aid linked with a complete stoppage of enforced disappearances.

“Since 2001, an average of 4 people are being forcibly disappeared in Balochistan on a daily basis.

more than 30 thousand human rights activists, teachers, journalists, students, lawyers, and political activists have forcibly disappeared, and have never been seen again. Apart from this, 6,000 people were killed by torture during detention and their mutilated bodies were thrown at different places to spread fear.” BNM's pamphlet further stated.

“International human rights organizations and even the Pakistani government and judiciary believe that the Pakistani military and its intelligence agencies are directly involved in enforced disappearances. However, to this date, neither a single culprit has been tried by the judicial courts nor any form of international pressure has been exerted to halt these crimes.”

BNM has appealed to British citizens to write to your MP and urge them to force the Pakistani state to immediately halt this practice. Any military aid by the UK to Pakistan must be immediately stopped and humanitarian aid linked with complete stoppage of enforced disappearances. The culprits should also be brought to trial.
